Nylon strings are predominantly used on classical and flamenco guitars, as well as on some ukuleles, lutes, and other folk instruments where a soft, mellow tone is desired.
Nylon strings produce a warm, mellow tone and have a softer feel, making them easier on the fingers. Steel strings offer a brighter, louder sound with more sustain, often preferred for genres like rock, folk, and country.
It's generally not recommended. A steel-string guitar's bracing is designed for higher tension, and nylon strings might not resonate effectively. Conversely, steel strings can severely damage a classical (nylon string) guitar due to excessive tension.
Nylon strings should ideally be replaced every 3-6 months, depending on playing frequency and intensity. Regular changes maintain optimal tone, intonation, and playability.
