The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), officially the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), is the governing civic body responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of Mumbai, India.
Its primary responsibilities include maintaining public health, sanitation, water supply, road infrastructure, waste management, urban planning, and administering various municipal services for the city of Mumbai.
The BMC comprises an elected deliberative body (corporators) led by a Mayor, and an executive wing headed by a Municipal Commissioner, who is an IAS officer appointed by the state government.
The BMC undertakes extensive pre-monsoon preparations, including desilting drains, repairing roads, and setting up disaster management cells to mitigate flooding and related issues during the annual monsoon season.
