India's Labour Codes consolidate 29 central laws into four broad codes: Wages, Industrial Relations, Social Security, and Occupational Safety. These...
The four codes are: The Code on Wages, 2019; The Industrial Relations Code, 2020; The Code on Social Security, 2020; and The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.
While passed by Parliament, the codes have not been implemented nationwide due to states needing to frame their own rules. Implementation has been continuously delayed, with no definitive nationwide date yet.
They aim to extend social security benefits to more workers, ensure timely wage payments, provide a national minimum wage, and improve occupational safety and health standards.
The primary objective is to simplify India's complex labour law landscape, improve ease of doing business for employers, and provide better protection and rights to workers through a unified framework.
