Delhi High Court is hearing the complex inheritance battle.

A high-stakes inheritance battle has intensified over the ₹30,000 crore estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on June 12, 2025, from a cardiac arrest. The dispute primarily revolves around a will dated March 21, 2025, which allegedly designates Kapur's third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as the sole beneficiary, effectively disinheriting his children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his previous marriage to Karisma Kapoor. The legal confrontation took a dramatic turn with the emergence of alleged call detail records (CDRs) belonging to Priya Kapur. These records purportedly indicate that her mobile phone was in New Delhi on March 21, 2025, contradicting her sworn affidavit to the Delhi High Court, where she claimed to be physically present in Gurugram for the will's execution on the same date. Legal experts have highlighted the seriousness of such a discrepancy, suggesting it could lead to perjury charges if proven, and severely impact her case. Samaira and Kiaan have formally sought criminal action against Priya Kapur, alleging forgery and fabrication of the will, and are pushing for Sections 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita to be invoked. They have pointed out numerous inconsistencies in the will's 'digital trail,' including the absence of Sunjay Kapur's own digital footprint, alleged inaccuracies in his and Priya's locations on crucial dates, and several spelling and grammatical errors that an educated individual like Sunjay Kapur would unlikely make. They have also questioned the role of the will's executor and the drafting lawyer. Priya Kapur, an investment banker, has vehemently denied the allegations, calling the children's claims "bogus" and asserting the will's validity, arguing that minor errors do not invalidate a properly executed document. The Delhi High Court is currently deliberating on the matter, with the children requesting the seizure of mobile phones of Priya Kapur and witnesses to investigate the alleged fake digital trail.
