Tamil Nadu Announces ₹3,000 Pongal Cash Gift for Rice Card Holders

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a ₹3,000 cash gift for all rice ration card holders and families in Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camps for Pongal 2026. This welfare measure, costing ₹6,936.18 crore, also includes a gift hamper of rice, sugar, and sugarcane, along with free dhotis and sarees. Distribution is set to begin on January 8, 2026.
