Widespread protests have erupted across Pakistan's Sindh province following the brutal murder of a young Hindu farmer, Kailash Kolhi (also referred to as Kailash Kumar in some reports). The incident occurred in the Badin district, specifically near Talhar and Raho Kolhi village, where Kolhi was allegedly shot dead by an influential landlord, Sarfaraz Nizamani. The motive behind the killing appears to be a land dispute, reportedly over Kolhi's refusal to vacate land or the construction of a hut on it. The killing has ignited significant anger among minority communities and human rights activists in Pakistan, leading to demonstrations and sit-ins on major thoroughfares like the Badin–Hyderabad National Highway and the Badin–Thar Coal Road. Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded as protestors demanded justice and vowed not to disperse until the accused is arrested. Hindu rights activist Shiva Kachhi, Chairman of Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, has been a prominent voice, leading protests and describing the murder as a "cry of a wounded conscience" and a "direct attack on humanity, justice, and the basic safety of minorities in Sindh". The victim's family, including his wife, young children, and elderly parents, have also taken to the streets, appealing for the immediate arrest of Sarfaraz Nizamani and demanding that the case be registered under murder and terrorism charges. They have also expressed fears of further threats and appealed for protection from authorities. The incident has drawn participation from various political, nationalist, religious, and social organizations, highlighting the collective outrage and concern over the ongoing atrocities against minorities in the region.
