Aditya Dhar's action-thriller 'Dhurandhar', featuring Akshaye Khanna, Ranveer Singh, and Sanjay Dutt, initially hit cinemas on December 5, 2025, receiving mixed-to-positive reviews and achieving significant box office success. However, the film soon faced considerable backlash from the Baloch community over a controversial dialogue. The line, spoken by Sanjay Dutt's character, allegedly compared Baloch people to crocodiles, triggering widespread outrage and accusations of hate speech. Following protests and legal notices, including a petition filed in the Gujarat High Court, India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting intervened, directing the filmmakers to make necessary changes. Consequently, distributors issued an urgent directive to theatres on December 31, 2025, to replace the film's Digital Cinema Package (DCP) with a revised version. This updated cut, which muted the offensive word 'Baloch' and altered the contentious dialogue, was released in cinemas nationwide on January 1, 2026. The film has continued its successful run at the box office, grossing over ₹1,000 crore globally and becoming one of the highest-earning Hindi films. A sequel, 'Dhurandhar Part 2: The Revenge', is already slated for a March 19, 2026, release, with Akshaye Khanna expected to appear in flashback sequences.
