India has announced the approval of 22 new electronic component manufacturing projects, representing a substantial investment of approximately $4.6 billion (₹41,863 crore). These approvals, granted under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), are a strategic move to bolster India's domestic electronics industry, reduce dependence on imports, and foster a robust local supply chain. The initiatives involve prominent global and domestic players such as Samsung, Tata Electronics, and Foxconn, signalling significant interest and commitment to India's manufacturing ecosystem. The approved projects are geographically diversified, with units slated for establishment across eight Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The focus areas for manufacturing include critical components like Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), capacitors, high-speed connectors, mobile phone enclosures, camera sub-assemblies, and Lithium-ion cells. The Indian government anticipates that these projects will collectively generate an output worth $28.6 billion (₹2.58 trillion) and create around 33,791 to 34,000 direct employment opportunities, significantly contributing to economic growth and skill development. This push is aligned with India's broader ambition to become a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design, moving beyond mere assembly to higher value-added production.
