Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest automaker, is set to make a substantial investment of ₹35,000 crore to develop a new vehicle manufacturing plant in Khoraj, Gujarat. This monumental project, confirmed by various credible sources, underscores Maruti Suzuki's commitment to expanding its production capacity and strengthening India's automotive sector. The new facility, situated on 1,750 acres of land in Khoraj, near Ahmedabad/Sanand, is planned to have an annual production capacity of 10 lakh (1 million) vehicles. The investment includes an initial outlay of ₹4,960 crore approved by the board for land acquisition, development, and preparatory activities. Production from the first unit is anticipated to commence in the financial year 2029, with the overall goal of achieving 4 million units capacity in India by FY2030-31 across all its facilities. The project is a significant boost for employment, directly generating over 12,000 jobs. Furthermore, the establishment of ancillary industries and auto component suppliers in the surrounding region is expected to create an additional 7.5 lakh indirect jobs, greatly enhancing Gujarat's position as a leading automobile manufacturing hub. The investment letter handover ceremony between the Gujarat government and Maruti Suzuki India Limited took place in Gandhinagar on January 17, 2026, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi. This strategic move aligns with the 'Make in India, Made for the World' vision, reinforcing confidence in the nation's industrial infrastructure and automotive market growth.
