This feature is rolling out to all Gmail users at no additional cost, initially available in the United States with English language support, and expanding globally in the coming months. Additionally, the 'Help Me Write' feature, which assists users in drafting and refining emails, and 'Personalized Suggested Replies,' an evolution of Smart Replies offering context-aware responses, are also becoming free for all personal account holders. The most transformative feature is the new 'AI Inbox' view, a redesigned interface that aims to prioritize important emails and surface key information without requiring users to open individual messages. This 'personalized briefing system' will highlight urgent tasks, reminders, and important conversations. The AI Inbox is currently in limited testing with 'trusted testers,' with a broader global launch expected later this year. While many core AI functionalities are becoming free, more advanced features, such as 'AI Overview inbox queries' (allowing natural language searches within the inbox) and 'Proofread' for grammar and style checks, will be exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. The rollout of these features began on January 8, 2026. While some AI capabilities are enabled by default, users have the option to deactivate Gmail's AI features by turning off 'Smart features' in their settings.
