The Indian cinema industry experienced its most successful year since the pandemic in 2025, with gross box office collections reaching a record-breaking ₹13,395 crore (approximately $1.48 billion). This milestone surpassed the previous record of ₹12,226 crore set in 2023. The achievement is particularly noteworthy as it occurred despite a 6% decline in audience footfalls, which totaled 832 million admissions for the year. The revenue growth was primarily fueled by a significant 20% increase in the Average Ticket Price (ATP), rising from ₹134 in 2024 to ₹161 in 2025, marking the steepest increase in four years. Hindi cinema played a crucial role in this record-breaking performance, registering its best-ever year with gross collections of ₹5,504 crore. A significant trend observed was the resurgence of original Hindi-language films, which accounted for 93% of Hindi box office revenues, while the dependence on dubbed South Indian films sharply decreased from 31% in 2024 to just 7% in 2025. Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar' emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, with collections around ₹950 crore domestically, setting a new record for Hindi-language cinema. In total, 37 films managed to cross the ₹100 crore mark in 2025, a substantial increase from 22 films in 2024. International films also saw a strong resurgence, growing by 49% year-on-year, marking their biggest year since the pandemic and second-best since 2019.
