A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has sentenced a former Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the repeated sexual abuse of his daughter. The horrific abuse began when the victim was approximately six years old and continued for over a decade, spanning multiple states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand due to the father's postings.
The case came to light in November 2023 when the survivor, then 17 years old, gathered the courage to confide in her mother. The shocked mother immediately filed a police complaint, leading to the accused's arrest on November 20, 2023. During the trial, the victim testified that her father manipulated her, repeatedly telling her that the abuse was 'normal' and 'how fathers showed love to their daughters.' The court also heard evidence of the convict physically assaulting his wife, contributing to a pervasive atmosphere of fear within the household.
Special Judge Archana Sagar delivered the judgment, finding the former IAF personnel guilty under IPC sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act. In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a fine of ₹25,000 and ordered the convict to pay ₹3 lakh as compensation to the victim. The court emphasized the severe damage caused to the victim's physical and mental well-being, rejecting the defense's claims of marital discord. This landmark ruling underscores the judiciary's commitment to protecting children and addressing heinous crimes within families in India.
