Israel has announced its decision to immediately sever all contact with seven United Nations agencies and related international bodies, a move triggered by a review conducted after the United States' recent withdrawal from 66 international organizations. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar stated that the decision was prompted by what Jerusalem described as persistent bias, politicization, and actions hostile to Israel by the affected bodies. The US withdrawal, reportedly ordered by President Donald Trump on January 7, 2026, involved 31 UN-affiliated entities and 35 other organizations, citing they no longer served American interests. Among the organizations Israel is immediately withdrawing from are the UN Alliance of Civilizations, UN Energy, and the Global Forum on Migration and Development. Additionally, Israel noted it had already cut ties years ago with four other UN bodies referenced in the US announcement: the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (after blacklisting the IDF in 2024), UN Women (due to alleged neglect of sexual violence against Israeli women), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), both accused of virulent anti-Israel reports. Foreign Minister Sa'ar has also instructed his ministry to conduct an immediate examination of Israel's continued cooperation with other international organizations, with further decisions expected. This action reflects Israel's long-standing tensions with various UN bodies, which it frequently accuses of anti-Israel bias, particularly heightened amid recent conflicts.
