The Ayodhya administration has imposed a comprehensive ban on the delivery of non-vegetarian food items within a 15-kilometer radius of the newly consecrated Ram Temple. This directive, issued on January 8, 2026, explicitly includes online food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato, as well as hotels, guest houses, and homestays operating in the designated area.
Assistant Food Commissioner Manik Chandra Singh stated that the move was prompted by persistent complaints that non-vegetarian food was being supplied to tourists through online orders, despite existing prohibitions on its sale in and around the Ram Temple area. The ban's perimeter encompasses the significant 'Panchkosi Parikrama' route, a sacred 15-kilometer pilgrimage path around Ayodhya Dham. Officials emphasize that the decision is crucial for maintaining the religious and cultural sanctity of the temple town.
The administration has formally informed all affected establishments and delivery companies, warning of strict action and continuous monitoring to ensure compliance. While a ban on the sale of liquor and meat along the 14-kilometer Ram Path was adopted by the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation in May 2025, reports indicate that the implementation regarding liquor sales has been less effective, with numerous outlets still operating. This latest order specifically strengthens the prohibition on non-vegetarian food, closing previous loopholes related to online delivery services.
