The case pertains to a devastating stampede that occurred on September 27, 2025, during a political rally addressed by Vijay in Karur district, Tamil Nadu. The incident resulted in the deaths of 41 people and left more than 60 injured, drawing national attention and public outrage. The Supreme Court, in October 2025, intervened and ordered a CBI investigation into the matter, following petitions seeking an independent probe. During the extensive questioning, Vijay was reportedly grilled over a significant seven-hour delay in reaching the rally venue, which allegedly contributed to the swelling crowds and subsequent loss of control. Investigators also questioned him about alleged lapses in crowd management and his decision to leave the venue as the situation worsened. The CBI is examining whether party workers adequately coordinated with local police and district administration, as the crowd reportedly grew from an estimated 10,000 to approximately 30,000 people.
