Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, reunited for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, jointly unveiled their manifesto, 'Vachan Nama, Shabd Thackerencha' on Sunday. The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at Shiv Sena Bhawan, marking Raj Thackeray's return to the party headquarters after nearly two decades since his departure from the undivided Shiv Sena. A central promise of the manifesto is the complete waiver of property tax for residential flats measuring up to 700 square feet in Mumbai. This expands on a previous commitment by the undivided Shiv Sena in the 2017 civic polls, which had promised and delivered a property tax waiver for flats up to 500 square feet. Another significant offering is the 'Swabhiman Nidhi' scheme, proposing a monthly cash handout of ₹1,500 for domestic workers and fisherwomen. The manifesto also includes promises of 100 units of free electricity, ₹10 subsidised meals, free parking at BMC lots, a civic ambulance service, and the construction of 100,000 affordable houses for Marathi speakers in the next five years. The unveiling of this manifesto underscores the Thackeray cousins' strategic move to consolidate their political base in Mumbai ahead of the critical civic polls scheduled for January 15, 2026.
