Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has ordered the immediate suspension of a doctor and initiated an investigation in connection with the ongoing "Bhopal slaughterhouse case." The directive from the Urban Development and Housing Minister came amid a significant controversy surrounding the alleged illegal transportation and sale of beef in the state capital. The case stems from the seizure of approximately 25-26 tonnes of suspected meat from a truck in Bhopal's Jahangirabad area on December 17. Hindu right-wing organizations intercepted the truck, claiming the consignment contained banned cow meat. Subsequent laboratory tests, including forensic examination at the Veterinary College in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, confirmed the presence of cow meat, which is prohibited under the MP Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act. Following the confirmation, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed the Jinsi Crossing slaughterhouse, from where the meat was allegedly sourced. The suspended doctor, identified as Beni Prasad Gaur, a senior assistant veterinary surgeon with the BMC and in-charge of slaughterhouse matters, is accused of negligence for allegedly issuing a certificate wrongly identifying the cow meat as buffalo meat. Bhopal Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh issued Gaur's suspension order, citing his failure to properly discharge duties and violation of conduct rules. This incident has sparked widespread political uproar, with the Congress party alleging hypocrisy from the ruling BJP government regarding beef exports and staging walkouts during civic body meetings. BJP leaders, including Minister Vishvas Sarang, have assured strict action against those involved in cow slaughter or illegal meat transportation. Police investigations are ongoing, probing the supply chain and verifying leads through various records, as well as examining CCTV footage from the slaughterhouse. The entire controversy highlights the sensitive nature of beef trade in India and the political tensions surrounding it.
