A significant and somewhat awkward incident involving legendary actor Dev Anand and superstar Amitabh Bachchan has recently resurfaced, drawing considerable attention in the Indian media. According to Mohan Churiwala, Dev Anand's close friend and associate, the veteran actor was made to wait outside Amitabh Bachchan's Mumbai residence, Jalsa, for an extended period in 2007. The incident took place the day after Dev Anand's autobiography launch, where Amitabh Bachchan was a special guest. Churiwala recounted in an interview that politician Amar Singh, a close friend of the Bachchan family at the time, had personally volunteered to bring Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Ambani, and Tina Ambani to the book launch, even promising they would stay for dinner. However, Bachchan and Amar Singh reportedly left the event prematurely, which left Dev Anand wondering if he had inadvertently offended them. The following day, Dev Anand insisted on accompanying Mohan Churiwala to Jalsa to personally deliver copies of his autobiography to Bachchan, Ambani, and Singh. Upon their arrival, the watchman took about 15 minutes to inquire and go inside, followed by another 10 minutes for Amar Singh to appear, leading to Dev Anand waiting for approximately half an hour. Churiwala described Dev Anand's discomfort during this wait. The reason for the delay was reportedly clarified by Amar Singh after Dev Anand's passing in 2011. Singh revealed in an interview with Vir Sanghvi that any guest entering Jalsa required prior permission from the Bachchans. Mohan Churiwala expressed relief that this detail emerged after Dev Anand's death, believing the veteran actor would have been deeply hurt had he known he was made to wait due to a permission requirement.
