Multiple suspected Pakistani drones have been sighted along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the second such occurrence within a 48-hour period. These aerial intrusions were reported across various forward areas including Rajouri, Samba, and Poonch districts, prompting heightened vigilance from Indian security forces. On Sunday, January 11, 2026, and subsequently, drone movements were observed over locations such as Gania-Kalsian village in Nowshera sector, Khabbar village in Teryath, Chak Babral village in Ramgarh, and the Mankote sector. The Indian Army promptly activated counter-Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) measures, engaging the drones with firing from medium and light machine guns to force their retreat. Following these sightings, extensive ground search operations have been launched by the Army, police, and other security agencies to ascertain if any arms, contraband, or suspicious material were dropped on the Indian side. This surge in drone activity comes amidst a strong warning issued by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to Pakistan concerning active terror camps across the border, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region. Officials indicate that the drones are likely being used for reconnaissance, surveillance, and to facilitate the smuggling of weapons and drugs into the Union Territory.
