National shooting coach Ankush Bharadwaj has been accused of sexual assault by a 17-year-old female shooter, an incident that has led to his suspension by the National Rifles Association of India (NRAI) and the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by the Faridabad police. The alleged assault occurred on December 16, 2025, in a five-star hotel in Surajkund, Faridabad, following a national championship held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi. The teen alleged that Bharadwaj invited her to his room for a 'focused discussion' about her performance. She further claimed that he offered to 'crack her back' as a recovery technique, and upon her refusal, he allegedly pushed her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her. Police registered the case at the Women's Police Station in Faridabad under Section 6 (penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The NRAI confirmed Bharadwaj's suspension on moral grounds, stating he will not be involved in any coaching activities until the inquiry concludes. This incident has brought to light Bharadwaj's past, including a two-year doping ban in 2010 for using beta-blockers during a competition. Bharadwaj, who is married to Olympian Anjum Moudgil, has not yet been arrested, and investigations are ongoing, with authorities seeking CCTV footage from the hotel.
