Ahead of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2026, Indian intelligence agencies have issued a significant alert, warning of potential terror threats from Khalistani and Bangladesh-based extremist organizations. Delhi and several other major cities across the country have been placed on high alert following these intelligence inputs. According to intelligence sources, these radical outfits are reportedly leveraging local criminal networks, particularly Punjab-based gangsters, to act as 'foot soldiers' and further their agendas to disrupt internal security. These gangsters are said to be active across states like Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, gradually establishing operational links with Khalistani terror elements. In response to this heightened threat perception, security measures have been significantly ramped up across the National Capital and other vulnerable regions. Delhi Police, in coordination with central forces and other state agencies, has implemented multi-layered security arrangements. This includes intensive checking, area domination exercises, and high-level interstate coordination meetings to share intelligence and strategize anti-terror measures. Mock drills simulating terror attacks have been conducted at critical and crowded locations, including the Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, and metro stations, to test preparedness and response times. Offices along Kartavya Path will also undergo phased closures for stringent sanitization and security checks. The alert underscores the continuous efforts by security forces to ensure a safe and secure Republic Day celebration amidst evolving threat landscapes.
