An Indian-origin couple, Kosha Sharma, 52, also known as 'Ma' or 'Mama K,' and Tarun Sharma, 55, known as 'Pop' or 'Pa,' have been arrested in Dumfries, Virginia, in connection with a major drug and sex trafficking investigation. The couple, who operated the Red Carpet Inn, face charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, including fentanyl. The arrests followed a coordinated operation on January 15, 2026, involving the FBI and the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities executed multiple search warrants at the Red Carpet Inn located at 17005 Dumfries Road. According to a press release from the U.S. Justice Department, federal authorities allege that since May 2023, the Sharmas took a share of the profits from illegal activities, including prostitution, occurring on the third floor of their motel. The investigation, which spanned several months from May to December 2025, involved undercover operations. Law enforcement conducted nine prostitution encounters and 15 controlled purchases of fentanyl and cocaine at the motel, with eleven of these transactions involving fentanyl. In addition to Kosha and Tarun Sharma, three other individuals — Margo Waldon Pierce, Joshua Roderick, and Rashard Perrish Smith — were also arrested and charged for their alleged roles in the criminal enterprise. All five defendants made their initial court appearance on January 16, 2026. If convicted, they face a mandatory minimum prison term of no less than 10 years. U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Lindsey Halligan, emphasized the devastating impact of drug and sex trafficking, stating that it exploits vulnerable individuals and fuels violence and addiction. The U.S. Attorney's office is committed to dismantling such criminal enterprises. The case highlights a significant law enforcement effort to combat organized crime in the region.
