Actor-politician Vijay, the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been issued a fresh summons by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear for questioning on January 19, 2026. This is the second time Vijay has been called by the agency in connection with the Karur stampede tragedy. He was previously questioned for approximately six hours on January 12, 2026, but requested a deferment for further questioning, citing the Pongal festival. The stampede, which occurred on September 27, 2025, during a TVK rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, tragically resulted in the deaths of 41 people. The CBI took over the investigation on October 13, 2025, following a Supreme Court order, which also established a three-member supervisory committee headed by a former apex court judge to monitor the probe. Amidst these developments, the TVK has unequivocally reiterated its political stance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). CTR Nirmal Kumar, the joint general secretary of TVK, stated that the BJP remains their "ideological enemy" and that the party has no intention of forming an alliance with them. This position has been consistent since Vijay formally launched TVK in February 2024, ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The ongoing CBI probe, coupled with the deferment of his film 'Jana Nayagan's' release, has added a layer of political intrigue to the actor's burgeoning political career. The investigation continues to focus on issues such as permission for the event, crowd management, security measures, and the delay in Vijay's arrival at the rally venue.
