Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has confirmed a substantial investment of ₹35,000 crore (approximately $3.9 billion) for the development of a new vehicle manufacturing plant in Khoraj, Gujarat. This strategic move aims to significantly augment the company's production capabilities by adding an annual capacity of one million vehicles. Production at the new facility is anticipated to commence in the financial year 2029. The announcement builds on initial declarations made during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2024, with the company's board recently approving ₹4,960 crore for land acquisition, site development, and preparatory activities at the Khoraj Industrial Estate. This ambitious project is expected to create over 12,000 direct employment opportunities and foster the growth of ancillary units and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Gujarat, thereby strengthening the state's automotive manufacturing ecosystem. This expansion is a critical part of Maruti Suzuki's broader strategy to achieve a total annual production capacity of approximately 4 million units in India by FY2030-31, catering to increasing domestic demand and facilitating exports. The new Gujarat plant, alongside expansions in Haryana and the fourth production line at Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), underscores Maruti Suzuki's confidence in India's automotive market and its commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative, positioning the country as a major global automotive hub.
