Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi emphasized the central government's commitment to accelerating the development of Eastern India. The projects unveiled are poised to strengthen the state's infrastructure and connectivity. Key initiatives include the foundation stone for the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh, which features an Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminal and a road overbridge. This facility, sprawling over approximately 900 acres, is envisioned as a modern cargo handling terminal with a capacity of about 2.7 million tonnes per annum, designed to improve cargo evacuation efficiency and reduce congestion in Kolkata. Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Jayrambati-Barogopinathpur-Maynapur rail line and flagged off a new train service between Maynapur and Jayrambati, providing direct rail connectivity to Bankura district residents, benefiting daily commuters, students, and pilgrims.
Furthermore, PM Modi flagged off three Amrit Bharat Express trains from West Bengal. These trains include services connecting Howrah with Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi, Sealdah with Banaras (Varanasi), and Santragachi with Tambaram (Chennai). These new routes are expected to significantly enhance affordable and reliable long-distance rail connectivity, serving the mobility needs of common citizens, students, migrant workers, and traders, while strengthening inter-state economic and social linkages. This extensive set of projects underscores a major push for integrated infrastructure development across West Bengal.
