Thalapathy Vijay's 2016 action thriller 'Theri' is officially set for a grand re-release in cinemas worldwide on January 15, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. This announcement brings cheer to fans, especially amidst the indefinite delay of Vijay's upcoming and highly anticipated final film, 'Jana Nayagan'. 'Jana Nayagan', originally slated for a January 9 release, has been postponed due to ongoing legal disputes and certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film's producer, KVN Productions, has been engaged in a legal battle, even approaching the Supreme Court after the Madras High Court stayed a single judge's order to issue a U/A 16+ certificate. Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu of V Creations, who produced 'Theri', confirmed the re-release on his X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing a new poster for the film. The re-release also marks the 10th anniversary of 'Theri', which originally hit screens in 2016 and starred Vijay in dual roles as DCP Vijaya Kumar and Joseph Kuruvilla, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson. The decision to re-release 'Theri' is largely seen as an effort to offer Vijay's fans a festive treat, filling the void created by 'Jana Nayagan's absence from the Pongal release schedule. This strategic move allows audiences to relive one of Vijay's celebrated performances and a commercially successful film, which was also recently remade in Hindi as 'Baby John'.
