Seven soldiers sustained injuries during a gunbattle with terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, which the Indian Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps named 'Operation Trashi-I', began around noon on Sunday in the Chatroo area. Security forces, including the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated a deliberate search operation in the general area Sonnar, northeast of Chatroo, based on specific intelligence inputs. During the operation, troops came into contact with a group of two to three foreign terrorists, allegedly belonging to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit. The terrorists reportedly fired indiscriminately and lobbed grenades in an attempt to break the cordon. The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to a hospital.
Following the initial exchange of fire, reinforcements from the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and local police were dispatched to further tighten the cordon around the area. Advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and sniffer dogs, has been deployed to expedite the operation to track and neutralize the terrorists. This incident marks one of several counter-terror operations in the Jammu region this year, coming shortly after encounters in the Billawar area of Kathua district. Officials indicate that operations have been intensified across the region in the run-up to Republic Day, driven by intelligence suggesting attempts by Pakistan-based handlers to infiltrate more terrorists into the area. The ongoing operation underscores the persistent security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
