Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray held a significant joint rally at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday, January 11, 2026, marking their first shared public platform in over two decades. The cousins united ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, slated for January 15, 2026, to launch a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
At the rally, they accused the BJP of pursuing divisive politics and systematically "isolating" Mumbai's Marathi Manoos (Marathi people). Uddhav Thackeray specifically alleged that the BJP engages in Hindu-Muslim and Marathi-non-Marathi politics before elections to weaken Maharashtra. A major point of contention was their accusation that the national party is facilitating land grabs to benefit the Adani Group. Raj Thackeray presented maps illustrating the expansion of Adani Group projects between 2014 and 2025, questioning the alleged favouritism towards one industrialist. He cited examples such as the Motilal Nagar redevelopment project, contracts for smart electricity meters, land for a data centre in Airoli, and other parcels allegedly handed to Adani.
Furthermore, both leaders claimed a conspiracy to "separate Mumbai from Maharashtra and bring it closer to Gujarat." Raj Thackeray elaborated on this, alleging plans to shift Mumbai airport's cargo operations to Navi Mumbai to acquire valuable Mumbai airport land near Dharavi, and linking this to potential control over regions like Palghar and Thane, which are adjacent to the Vadhavan port in Gujarat. NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil also announced that Mumbai's mayor would be decided by the Thackeray cousins and urged people to vote for them. The rally emphasized a united front to protect Mumbai's identity and Marathi pride from the alleged threats posed by the BJP's policies.
