India has unequivocally rejected China's infrastructure development activities in the Shaksgam Valley, asserting that the region is an integral and inalienable part of Indian territory. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India has never recognized the 1963 so-called China-Pakistan 'Boundary Agreement', under which Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq. km of Indian territory in the Shaksgam Valley to China, consistently maintaining that this agreement is 'illegal and invalid'. Recent reports indicate that China is constructing a long, all-weather road in the Shaksgam Valley, located north of the Siachen Glacier, with approximately 75 kilometers already completed. This development has prompted India to register strong protests with Beijing against what it describes as 'illegal attempts to alter facts on the ground'. Furthermore, India also does not recognize the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship Belt and Road Initiative project, as it passes through Indian territory under Pakistan's 'forcible and illegal occupation'. New Delhi has consistently conveyed its rejection of these unilateral actions to both Chinese and Pakistani authorities, reserving the right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its interests. The Shaksgam Valley, part of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), holds significant strategic importance due to its proximity to the Siachen Glacier, a disputed area between India and Pakistan. India's firm stance underscores its commitment to its sovereignty and territorial integrity concerning Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
