The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), also known as Namma Metro, significantly extended its late-night train services for New Year's Eve on December 31, 2023, in Bengaluru. This initiative aimed to facilitate safe and convenient travel for revelers ushering in January 1, 2024. The extended operations included both the Purple and Green Lines. According to official announcements and reports from various credible news outlets, the last metro trains from all terminal stations departed at 1:30 AM on January 1, 2024. The last train from the central Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic) to all four directions was scheduled for 2:15 AM on January 1, 2024. During these extended hours, trains maintained a frequency of 15 minutes. For public safety and to manage anticipated large crowds, the Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road Metro station was closed for public entry and exit from 11 PM on December 31, 2023. However, trains continued to stop at the adjacent Trinity and Cubbon Park metro stations as usual. Commuters planning to travel from Trinity or Cubbon Park after 11 PM were advised to purchase special paper tickets, priced at ₹50, in advance from 8 PM at any metro station. These tickets were valid exclusively for entry at Trinity and Cubbon Park after 11 PM, though smart cards, NCMC cards, and QR tickets were also valid for travel during the extended hours. Complementing Namma Metro's efforts, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) also extended its bus services, adding approximately 140 buses on popular routes to cater to New Year's Eve crowds, further ensuring comprehensive public transport availability. This joint effort by Bengaluru's primary public transport agencies played a crucial role in managing the extensive movement of people across the city during the festive night.
