Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have launched extensive search operations following multiple sightings of suspected Pakistani drones along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026. The drone movements were reported across several forward areas in three key districts: Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch. Officials confirmed that these unidentified flying objects originated from the Pakistan side, briefly hovered over Indian territory, and then retreated.
In response to the aerial intrusions, Indian Army troops guarding the Nowshera sector along the LoC in Rajouri opened fire with medium and light machine guns after observing drone activity over Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 PM. Similar drone-like objects with blinking lights were also sighted in other areas, including Khabbar village in Teryath, Rajouri; Chak Babral village in Ramgarh sector, Samba; and moving from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector, Poonch. These sightings prompted immediate and comprehensive ground search operations by the Army, police, and other security agencies to ascertain if any arms, narcotics, or other suspicious materials had been dropped on the Indian side.
This series of incidents comes just days after security forces recovered a significant consignment of arms – including two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade – in Paloora village of Ghagwal near the IB in Samba district, allegedly dropped by a Pakistani drone on Friday night. The repeated drone incursions highlight an ongoing challenge to border security and are a matter of high concern for Indian authorities, signaling a renewed push by hostile elements to exploit air routes for smuggling and reconnaissance activities. Security forces remain on high alert, intensifying surveillance and monitoring along the border regions.
