Director Sudha Kongara, whose latest film 'Parasakthi' starring Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, released on January 10, 2026, has publicly alleged a targeted online attack and a campaign of "slandering and defamation of the worst kind" against her movie. She stated that these attacks, which involve negative reviews, spreading old videos, influencing opinions, and attempts to lower ratings on ticketing platforms, are orchestrated by a specific group on social media. Though not explicitly naming actor Vijay, Kongara's comments strongly hinted at his fan base, especially referencing a threatening post from an X (formerly Twitter) handle, suggesting 'Parasakthi' would only run if its makers apologised to 'Anna fans' (referring to Vijay).
The controversy appears to stem from the fact that 'Parasakthi' was initially set to clash with Vijay's much-anticipated film 'Jana Nayagan', which faced a last-minute delay due to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issues. Dev Ramnath, the creative producer and an actor in 'Parasakthi', also initially vocalised concerns about fan-driven negative campaigns sabotaging their film. However, he later clarified that his remarks were misrepresented and that he was not specifically targeting Vijay's fans but rather highlighting the detrimental impact of such actions on the entire film industry. 'Parasakthi' itself encountered its own set of hurdles, receiving a U/A certificate with 25 modifications just a day before its release. The film, a historical political drama set during the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitation in Tamil Nadu, is now battling both box office challenges and this alleged online negativity.
