Karnataka's Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement), K Ramachandra Rao, has been suspended following the widespread circulation of alleged sleazy videos on social media. The videos reportedly depict the senior IPS officer in compromising positions with multiple women inside his office, at times while in uniform. This incident has triggered a significant controversy within the state's police department and political circles. Rao, a 1993-batch IPS officer, vehemently denied the authenticity of the videos, labeling them as "fabricated and false". He also suggested that the footage was eight years old and was recorded during a previous posting in Belagavi. Following the emergence of the videos, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the gravity of the situation and ordered an immediate investigation, asserting that no official, regardless of their seniority, is above the law. This is not the first time K Ramachandra Rao has faced scrutiny; he was previously sent on compulsory leave in March 2025 in connection with a gold smuggling case involving his stepdaughter, actress Ranya Rao. His compulsory leave was revoked, and he was reinstated in August 2025 before the current controversy erupted.
