India has become one of the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach.
Mercedes-Benz India has initiated the local assembly of its ultra-luxury Maybach GLS SUV at its Pune manufacturing facility, a move that positions India as the first market globally, outside of the United States, to undertake the production of this prestigious model. This strategic decision underscores India's growing importance in the luxury automotive sector, with the country now ranking among the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach for the first time.
The shift from importing the Maybach GLS as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) since 2021 to local manufacturing has led to a substantial reduction in its ex-showroom price. The locally assembled Mercedes-Maybach GLS is now priced starting at Rs 2.75 crore, marking a significant decrease of Rs 42 lakh from its previous CBU price of Rs 3.17 crore. This price adjustment is expected to enhance the vehicle's accessibility and reduce delivery times for Indian consumers.
Alongside the announcement of local production, Mercedes-Benz India also launched a new 'Celebration Edition' of the Maybach GLS, which is priced at Rs 4.10 crore (ex-showroom). The company's managing director and CEO, Santosh Iyer, highlighted that local production not only strengthens its top-end portfolio but also demonstrates Mercedes-Benz's long-term commitment to the Indian market. The locally assembled model retains its luxurious features and performance, powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a mild-hybrid system. This development is a key part of Mercedes-Benz India's broader strategy, which includes plans to introduce 12 new products in 2026 and expand its retail network.
