The incident occurred in broad daylight, reportedly around 11 AM, when two assailants intercepted her as she was returning after meeting a neighbour. According to police and eyewitness accounts, one of the attackers specifically asked her name before shooting her in the head at point-blank range, killing her on the spot. The attackers then fled the scene on a sports bike. Police suspect a direct link between Rachna Yadav's murder and the 2023 killing of her husband, Vijender Yadav. Vijender Yadav was shot dead in Bhalswa village on May 22, 2023, due to previous enmity, and Rachna was the primary witness in the ongoing trial for his murder. While five accused were arrested in her husband's case and are currently facing trial, the main accused, Bharat Yadav, remains absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender. Investigators believe Rachna's murder was likely committed to weaken the prosecution's case and intimidate other witnesses, given the crucial nature of her testimony. Her daughters, Vrinda and Kanika, are now orphaned, having lost both parents to gun violence, and have expressed fears for their own safety. Rachna Yadav was also actively involved in local politics and had reportedly approached the Supreme Court seeking justice for her husband.
