Pro-Ject Audio Systems, the renowned Austrian audio manufacturer, has launched two new headphone amplifiers, the Head Box S3 B and Head Box DS3 B, designed to significantly enhance the wired headphone listening experience. These amplifiers are notable as the inaugural products in a revitalized generation of the company's long-running Box Design range of hi-fi electronics.
A core feature of both models is their fully balanced circuitry, which aims to minimize noise interference and improve the separation between left and right audio channels, resulting in a cleaner and more detailed soundstage. They come equipped with both 4.4mm Pentaconn and four-pin XLR balanced outputs, alongside standard 3.5mm and 6.3mm single-ended connections, ensuring broad compatibility with various headphones. RCA and XLR line-level inputs are also provided for connecting to diverse source devices.
The Head Box S3 B, utilizing integrated amplifier stages with Texas Instruments TPA6120A2 chips, delivers an output of up to 820mW into 30 ohms. The more premium Head Box DS3 B features a fully discrete amplifier design, boosting the power output to 1.5W into 30 ohms, making it particularly suitable for driving harder-to-power or less sensitive headphones. Both units are housed in robust aluminum casework, reflecting Pro-Ject's commitment to build quality and protecting internal components from interference. They are manufactured in the EU. This launch caters to audiophiles seeking improved clarity, control, and overall performance from their wired headphone setups.
