A man from Kashmir, identified as Ahmed Sheikh, was detained at the highly sensitive Ram Temple complex in Ayodhya after he allegedly attempted to offer namaz. The 55-year-old, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, was reportedly observed trying to perform Islamic prayers near the Sita Rasoi area within the temple premises. Security personnel promptly intervened and detained him, subsequently handing him over to the local police for questioning. Following his detention, multiple sources reported that Sheikh allegedly shouted religious slogans when stopped by security officials. His family has since come forward, asserting that Sheikh is mentally unwell and has provided medical records from the psychiatry department of Srinagar Medical College to substantiate their claim. His son, Imran Sheikh, stated that his father had left home five to six days prior and they were unaware of his journey to Ayodhya. Police and intelligence agencies are actively interrogating Sheikh to ascertain his motives and any potential involvement of others. Preliminary checks revealed cashews and raisins in his possession, and he reportedly informed investigators he was traveling to Ajmer. The incident has prompted a review of security arrangements at the Ram Mandir complex, particularly as Ayodhya prepares for upcoming religious events like Makar Sankranti and the second anniversary of the temple's consecration ceremony.
