A horrific incident in Meerut's Kapsad village has led to the murder of a 50-year-old Dalit woman, Sunita Jatav, and the abduction of her 20-year-old daughter. The tragic event unfolded on a Thursday when Sunita intervened to protect her daughter from alleged abductors. She was fatally struck on the head with a sharp weapon by the assailants, who then fled with her daughter. Sunita later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Police have identified two primary accused, Paras Som (23) and Sunil Kumar (25), both residents of Kapsad village, and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and abduction, alongside provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The daughter remains missing, prompting intensified search operations by over ten police teams across districts, including Haryana and Delhi. The incident has ignited significant political outrage and condemnation, with various leaders visiting the bereaved family and demanding swift justice and the safe return of the abducted girl. Initially, the grieving family refused to perform Sunita's last rites, insisting on the immediate recovery of their daughter. However, following extensive negotiations with senior administrative and police officials and assurances of justice and financial compensation (including ₹10 lakh from the CM relief fund), they consented to the cremation under heavy security. Heavy police deployment continues in Kapsad village to maintain law and order amid prevailing tension.
