NEET UG 2026 Re-Test: Essential Documents for Exam Centre

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET UG 2026 re-examination was successfully conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 21, 2026. This re-test was a crucial event for medical aspirants in India, following significant controversies surrounding the initial examination. The primary NEET UG 2026 examination, originally held on May 3, 2026, faced widespread allegations of a paper leak and irregularities in the awarding of grace marks to 1,563 students. These concerns led to protests, political criticism, and petitions to the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court ultimately directed the NTA to cancel the grace marks for the affected 1,563 students and offered them the option to appear for a re-test. Leading up to the re-examination, the NTA released fresh admit cards for eligible candidates on June 14, 2026. Candidates were advised to download their hall tickets from the official NTA website, neet.nta.nic.in, using their application number and login credentials. For entry into the examination centres, a strict set of documents was mandated by the NTA. Candidates were required to carry a printed copy of their NEET UG 2026 admit card, one original valid photo identity proof, and two recent passport-size photographs. Accepted photo identity proofs included Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID Card, Driving Licence, or a School Identity Card with a photograph. It was crucial that the name on the ID proof matched the details on the admit card. One passport-size photograph was to be pasted on the admit card's self-declaration form, and another for the attendance sheet at the exam centre. For candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwBD), a valid PwBD certificate issued by a competent authority was also mandatory. In addition to these essential documents, candidates were generally permitted to carry a transparent water bottle. Diabetic candidates were allowed to bring sugar tablets, fruits like bananas, apples, or oranges, along with a transparent water bottle, as per NTA guidelines. Strict instructions were issued regarding prohibited items, which included mobile phones, smartwatches, earphones, Bluetooth devices, bags, wallets, purses, notes, books, metallic objects, and heavy jewellery. The NTA also put in place enhanced security measures for the re-exam, including biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, and signal jammers, to ensure a fair and transparent examination process. Furthermore, the NTA had to address and dismiss social media claims of a re-examination paper leak or sale on June 6, 2026, labeling them as false and fraudulent, and warning of strict action against those spreading such misinformation. Over 22 lakh candidates were expected to appear for the re-examination, which was held across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 international locations. The examination timings were from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, with entry gates closing sharply at 1:30 PM. The NEET UG examination and the subsequent re-test highlight the critical importance of secure and credible examination processes for higher education admissions in India.
