Andhra Pradesh is solidifying its position as a burgeoning green energy export hub for India with the development of a colossal green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Kakinada. This initiative, spearheaded by AM Green, involves a substantial investment of approximately $10 billion, making it one of the largest clean energy ventures in the country. The project is specifically designed to facilitate India's entry into the global clean energy export market, with initial plans to supply green ammonia to international destinations such as Germany, Japan, and Singapore.
The Kakinada facility, which involves the brownfield conversion of an existing ammonia-urea plant, is touted as India's first large-scale green ammonia complex and aims for a planned capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030. This ambitious undertaking is projected to generate roughly 8,000 jobs during its construction phase, alongside creating numerous high-skill employment opportunities once operations commence. The significance of this project is further underscored by the scheduled participation of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Konidala Pawan Kalyan in a major equipment erection ceremony on January 17, 2026.
This development aligns with Andhra Pradesh's broader 'Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024,' which targets mobilising ₹10 lakh crore in green energy investments by 2029. India as a nation is actively working to become a global leader in the production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives, making this project a critical component of the country's broader clean energy transition and climate action goals.
